ACT

Understanding Your Context

Experience providing services and building university programs informs my attention to the relationships, responsibilities, and environments that shape daily life.

Psychotherapy & Training

Two ways to work together, connected by a practical, behavioral approach to meaningful change.

Individual Psychotherapy

I specialize in evidence-based psychotherapy for anxiety, persistent worry, and perfectionism. I work with adults at different life and career stages, including young adults, established professionals, and new parents.

Is this the right support for me?

You may find yourself replaying conversations, struggling to switch off, or worrying about disappointing others. You might be balancing a demanding job, changes in your relationships, or the unfamiliar responsibilities of parenthood. Therapy offers room to understand what you're experiencing, alongside practical support for responding differently.

Our work brings together research-informed methods, clinical expertise, and your needs and preferences. Anxiety, executive functioning, and relationship concerns can overlap; we agree on a focus and pace, then review whether the work is addressing what matters to you.

What to expect from psychotherapy

Anxiety-Focused Psychotherapy

Anxiety & Related Concerns

Space to understand worry, self-criticism, and feeling overwhelmed. Practical, research-informed ways to respond differently.

Concerns we can work on

Anxiety can show up as second-guessing yourself, difficulty setting boundaries, or feeling that you should be handling everything better. We take time to understand those experiences, drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and cognitive-behavioral approaches to explore worry, self-criticism, and avoidance, and practice new ways of responding.

  • Anxiety & persistent worry
  • Perfectionism, self-criticism & achievement anxiety
  • Work stress, boundaries & difficulty switching off
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  • Relationships & transitions, including new parenthood

Specialized Psychotherapy Focus

Executive Functioning & Behavioral Change

Support with getting started, following through, and balancing responsibilities. Psychotherapy that looks beyond productivity alone.

Focus areas & short-term work

When everyday responsibilities feel difficult to start, organize, or keep up with, the goal is not simply to become more productive. We explore the emotional and practical barriers, including anxiety, perfectionism, avoidance, or attention difficulties, and develop research-informed strategies that fit your life. ADHD may be part of the picture, but these challenges are not limited to ADHD.

  • Procrastination, avoidance & getting started
  • Planning & balancing everyday responsibilities
  • Emotional regulation & sustainable routines
  • ADHD-related executive functioning difficulties

This work is provided as psychotherapy. A focused, short-term course may be appropriate based on your clinical needs and goals, with progress and next steps reviewed together.

My style is warm and exploratory, and concrete when that is what you need. We build an understanding of your concerns together, with open communication and clear feedback along the way.

Experience & qualifications

I bring over 15 years of experience providing clinical services, alongside experience developing university programs and teaching clinicians. My on-campus work combines direct services for thousands of students with building programs to support university communities. These experiences inform my attention to the wider circumstances of people's lives, not just the concerns that bring them to therapy.

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Board-Certified in Clinical Psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). My psychotherapy work focuses on anxiety, executive functioning, behavioral challenges, and relationships, with young adults, established professionals, and new parents among the adults I work with. I also offer ACT training and professional consultation for clinicians and organizations.

I offer telepsychology in PSYPACT participating states. This agreement allows authorized psychologists to work with clients by video across state lines.

Shamsi Psychological Services is an independent private practice.

Understanding Together.
Finding a Way Forward.

We begin with a strong collaboration and an understanding of your unique experiences. Together, we explore how you want to meet your challenges and what support, skills, or changes you may need.

Collaborative & Individualized

We agree on a pace that gives you room to explore while attending to the concerns that matter most. Your feedback helps us decide what to continue, what to change, and whether we are making meaningful progress.

Grounded in Evidence

I draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and cognitive-behavioral approaches. Evidence-based practice means integrating the best available research with clinical expertise and your preferences, then reviewing progress to guide our work.

Focused on Real Life

When practical support is useful, we make room for it. That might mean asking for help, setting a boundary, approaching something you've avoided, or finding a workable routine during a change in your life.
