Individual Psychotherapy

What to Expect From Psychotherapy

A collaborative process for understanding your concerns, exploring what you need, and finding a way forward at a pace we agree on.

My style is warm and exploratory, with concrete support when it is useful. You do not need to arrive with a perfect explanation of what is wrong or a clear plan for changing it. Developing that understanding is part of our work together.

A Free Introductory Call

After you reach out, I'll follow up to arrange a free introductory call. We can talk about what brings you to therapy, what you are looking for, and whether my approach seems like an appropriate fit.

There is time for your questions, including questions about scheduling and payment options. The call is a chance to consider working together, not a commitment to begin therapy.

Building an Understanding Together

If we decide to begin, our early sessions focus on understanding your concerns through your unique experiences. We explore what has been difficult, what you have already tried, and the relationships and circumstances that matter to you.

This might include persistent worry, self-criticism, difficulty keeping up with responsibilities, or a transition such as new parenthood. We make room for your experience before deciding what needs to change.

Choosing a Direction and Pace

We then consider how you want to meet those challenges and what support, skills, or changes you may need. My work draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and cognitive-behavioral approaches, informed by research, clinical experience, and your preferences.

Some sessions may be more exploratory; others may focus on a concrete step to try in everyday life. We agree on a pace that allows reflection while checking that we are addressing your important concerns.

Keeping the Conversation Open

I have found open communication and clear feedback essential to this process. I want to hear what feels helpful, what does not, and whether our understanding of your concerns fits your experience.

We review progress together and adjust the focus, pace, or approach as needed. Depending on your concerns and goals, therapy may be focused and short-term or involve more time to explore broader patterns. We discuss next steps rather than assuming the same course works for everyone.

Questions You May Have

What if I am not sure what I need?

We can start with what feels difficult or unclear. You do not need a diagnosis or a set of goals prepared for the introductory call. We can discuss whether psychotherapy with me seems like an appropriate next step.

Can I say when something is not working for me?

Yes. Your feedback is part of our collaboration, including when a suggestion does not fit, the pace feels wrong, or you feel misunderstood. We can talk about it and consider what needs to change.

How long would we work together?

That depends on your concerns, goals, and how the work is progressing. We discuss the focus and length of therapy together and revisit those decisions as we learn more.
